Help with Premise

Contact

Premise is made by a very small team. Email us and a person who worked on the game will read it.

If you are reporting a problem, these four things let us find it far faster:

  • your device and iOS version — for example, iPhone 14, iOS 18.5
  • the app version, from Pause → Settings → About
  • the level number, shown at the top of the play screen
  • what you expected to happen, and what happened instead

Playing

I am stuck on a level.

Every level has a hint, and hints are free and unlimited — there is nothing to buy, watch or wait for. Open Pause → HINT, or tap the ? on the play screen.

If the hint does not help, the level is still solvable: every one of the 40 levels is verified by a solver as part of our build, so none of them can be a dead end. Take the win condition literally — it is usually more flexible than it looks.

How do I undo, or start a level again?

Undo is the control on the play screen. To start the level over, use Pause → RESTART LEVEL.

How do I move?

Swipe anywhere on the board, or use the on-screen arrows. Both do exactly the same thing, so use whichever suits your hands.

Can I replay a level I have finished?

Pause → THE THREAD shows how far you have come and lets you go back. It is deliberately not a grid of level numbers — seeing all forty at once gives away more than it helps.

Sound, haptics and comfort

How do I turn off sound or vibration?

Pause → Settings has independent switches for SOUND and HAPTICS. Both are remembered.

I hear nothing even with sound on.

Two things to check first:

  1. the iPhone silent switch, on the left edge of the device
  2. the volume while Premise is open, since iOS keeps a separate level for it

If neither is it, please email us — that is a bug and we want it.

Something in the game is hard to see or hard to use.

Tell us. We would rather hear it than not, and specifics — which screen, what was hard — genuinely do turn into changes.

Progress, devices and purchases

Where is my progress kept?

On your device, and — if iCloud Drive is on for Premise — in your own iCloud account, so it follows you between your Apple devices. We run no server and never receive a copy. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what is stored.

My progress did not appear on my other device.

iCloud sync is Apple's, and it is not instant. Check that both devices are signed into the same Apple Account, that Settings → [your name] → iCloud → iCloud Drive is on with Premise enabled, and that both have a network connection. Opening the game and waiting a moment usually settles it.

Premise itself has no network access at all, so it cannot sync anything on its own — if iCloud does not carry it, the game cannot.

I have a new phone. Do I pay again?

No. Premise is bought once against your Apple Account. Re-download it from the App Store on the new device while signed into the same account — your purchase history has it, and there is nothing to restore in-app because the game contains no in-app purchases.

I lost my progress.

If you deleted the app and iCloud backup was off, the record is gone and we cannot recover it — we never had it. If iCloud was on, reinstall and open the game while signed into the same Apple Account.

How do I delete everything Premise has stored?

Deleting the app removes the record on your device. To remove the iCloud copy too, go to Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage and remove the Premise data.

I would like a refund.

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us — Apple is the seller of record and we have no way to issue one. Request it at reportaproblem.apple.com. This does not affect any refund right you have under your local consumer law.

About the app

What do I need to run it?

An iPhone or iPad running iOS 18.2 or later.

Does it need an internet connection?

Never. Premise has no networking code and no accounts, so it plays start to finish offline. Nothing about you is collected or sent anywhere.

Is there anything else to buy?

No. One purchase, all forty levels, no in-app purchases, no subscription, no advertising, and hints are free.

Where do I find the version number?

Pause → Settings → About.
